- T-shirt commemoration of opera night wins contest
- "It was 1983 Opening Night at the opera and the patrons waited
patiently for three hours for the lead singer's
replacement who was being flown in from New York. (The lead singer had
lost his voice!) In the opera house staircase several gentlemen had
hoisted me into a window from where I could see, with my high-powered
binoculars,
the police-escorted arrival of Placido Domingo. When finally I saw the
approaching entourage I reported to the gentlemen below, who quickly ran
to shout the good news over the balcony - Placido had saved the day! -
"I HAD to have a T-shirt commemorating that event. It's my favorite. ...
I will cherish it always along with this story and memories of the San Francisco Opera."
